AM/NS India, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel has awarded a contract to ABB India for supplying electrification and automation systems for its advanced steel cold rolling mill (CRM) in Hazira, Gujarat. The contract was placed through the original equipment manufacturer John Cockerill India (JCIL)
AM/NS India is setting up a new CRM as part of its expansion plan. ABB India will also supply ABB ability system 800xA distributed control system (DCS) and associated equipment and components. It will incorporate features for enhanced energy efficiency, optimized zinc consumption and high levels of corrosion resistance throughout the steel production process
The new order will enable ABB to move towards sustainability and contribute to India's economic initiatives. In addition, JCIL will also support the development of modern steel operations. The CRM project is expected to be commissioned by 2024
The JV companies aim to create smarter steel to fulfil the increasing demand for high-end steel, which will also help to expand its business portfolio
AM/NS India has a crude steel manufacturing capacity of nine million tonne annually with downstream facilities
